Understanding Zips Car Wash Membership Plans
Zips Car Wash operates one of the largest car wash chains in the United States, with locations across multiple states offering various membership options for regular customers. Rather than paying per visit, membership plans allow car owners to visit locations as often as they want during their billing cycle for a set monthly fee. This guide provides information about how these membership structures work and what options may be available to different types of drivers.

The company offers several tiers of membership designed to match different washing needs and budgets. Each tier includes unlimited washes at participating Zips locations, though specific features and pricing may vary by location. The plans range from basic options for occasional washers to premium packages for those who want additional services included in their membership.
Zips membership plans typically work on an automatic monthly billing cycle. Once you set up a plan through their website or mobile app, charges occur on the same date each month. Members receive a digital or physical card they present at the wash entrance to access their included services. Most locations have automated entry systems that recognize member cards, allowing quick access without waiting in line at a cashier.
Understanding the structure of these plans matters because different drivers have different needs. Someone living in a dry climate may want fewer washes per month, while someone in an area with frequent rain or snow might prefer unlimited access. Knowing what each tier includes helps you choose the option that matches your actual car care routine.
Practical Takeaway: Before choosing a membership level, track how often you currently wash your car and what your typical wash frequency costs. This information helps you determine whether a membership plan would save you money compared to pay-per-wash visits.
Basic and Essential Membership Tiers
The entry-level membership options at Zips Car Wash cater to drivers who wash their vehicles occasionally or who want to test whether a membership makes financial sense for their situation. These plans typically cost between $7 to $15 per month, depending on location and the specific services included. Basic tier memberships generally include unlimited exterior washes using the standard wash cycle, which covers pre-rinse, soap application, brush wash, and final rinse stages.

Essential or mid-tier plans usually fall in the $15 to $25 monthly range and add features beyond basic washing. These might include upgraded soap formulas, spot-free rinse technology, or undercarriage washing—a service that helps remove salt and debris from beneath your vehicle, which is particularly valuable in winter months or coastal areas. Some locations include tire shine application or wheel cleaning as part of this tier.
Monthly pricing for these plans varies significantly by geographic location and local market conditions. A basic membership in a rural area might cost $8.99 per month, while the same basic plan in an urban center could be $12.99. This reflects differences in operating costs, real estate prices, and local competition. Zips publishes pricing information on their website organized by state and individual location, so you can see exactly what each plan costs near you.
The value proposition of entry-level memberships becomes clear when you do the math. If a standard wash costs $6 at your local Zips, then paying $10 per month for unlimited washes breaks even after just two visits. After that, every wash represents savings. For someone who washes their car twice monthly on average, a basic membership typically saves $2 to $4 monthly compared to pay-per-wash pricing.
Many drivers use entry-level plans as a way to decide if a membership fits their lifestyle. You can start with a basic plan, track your actual usage for a few months, and then upgrade to a higher tier if you find yourself washing more frequently than expected. Most locations allow plan changes through the mobile app or by contacting customer service.
Practical Takeaway: Calculate your break-even point by dividing the monthly membership cost by the cost of a single wash at your location. If you wash your car more often than that number each month, a membership will save you money.
Premium and Unlimited Membership Options
Premium membership tiers represent the top offerings in Zips' membership lineup, typically costing between $25 to $40 per month depending on location and included services. These plans bundle multiple add-on services with unlimited exterior washes, creating a more comprehensive vehicle care package. Premium memberships often include services like spot-free rinse, undercarriage wash, tire shine, wheel cleaning, and sometimes even interior vacuum services or air freshening options.

The highest-tier unlimited plans may also include perks beyond the wash itself. Some locations offer members priority access to the wash bays during busy times, though this varies by location. Certain premium tiers include monthly or quarterly complimentary interior detailing services or clay bar treatments, which help maintain your vehicle's paint finish between major detailing appointments. A few locations offer members discounts on additional services like full detailing packages or wax treatments.
Premium plans make the most financial sense for drivers in harsh climates or those who wash vehicles frequently. Someone in Minnesota or Ohio during winter might wash their car twice weekly to remove road salt buildup. At typical per-wash rates of $8 to $12 for a premium wash with undercarriage cleaning, that's $64 to $96 per week. A $35 monthly premium membership becomes dramatically cost-effective compared to this regular spending.
Some premium members are business owners or fleet users who wash multiple vehicles. While individual memberships apply to one person's use, some Zips locations offer business accounts or family plans. These may provide multiple cards or discounts when managing washes for several vehicles. Pricing and availability for these special arrangements vary, so contacting your local Zips location directly provides accurate information about options in your area.
Premium tier benefits sometimes extend beyond the physical wash services. Members may receive notifications about seasonal promotions, advance information about new services being added at their location, or invitations to loyalty events. The mobile app for premium members often shows more detailed statistics about their car wash history and savings compared to non-members.
Practical Takeaway: Premium memberships offer the best value for people who wash their vehicles weekly or more frequently. If you live in a region with significant weather challenges like heavy snow, salt spray, or frequent dust storms, the added services like undercarriage washing become particularly valuable protective measures for your vehicle's undercarriage and paint.
How to Compare Plans and Find the Right Fit
Choosing the correct Zips membership plan requires comparing your actual car washing habits against the available options at your location. Start by determining your typical wash frequency over the past few months. Look at your bank or credit card statements to see how much you've spent on car washing in the last month or two. This historical data reveals your natural washing pattern without guessing.

Next, identify what vehicle protection matters most to you. If you park outdoors in a sunny climate, paint protection and UV-blocking features might be priorities. If you live where roads are salted in winter, undercarriage washing and rust protection become essential. If you have an older vehicle, you might prioritize gentler wash systems that won't damage aging paint or seals. Different Zips membership tiers emphasize different protective qualities, so matching these to your needs ensures you're not paying for unnecessary features while missing important ones.
Research what each tier includes at your specific local Zips location. Memberships at the same price point may vary between locations. One Zips might include interior vacuuming in their premium tier while another doesn't. One location might offer discounts on additional services for premium members while another offers priority scheduling instead. The Zips website allows you to select your state and specific location to see pricing and included services accurate to that facility.
Consider the billing convenience factor as well. Membership plans charge automatically each month, which means one less transaction to remember. Some people value this simplicity highly, while others prefer the flexibility of pay-per-wash. Factor in that you can cancel memberships at most Zips locations without penalty, giving you flexibility to try a plan for a month or two.
Many locations display membership information at the entrance or inside the wash facility itself. Visiting your local Zips and speaking with staff can provide additional details about how each tier works in practice. Staff can also explain any current promotions—some locations offer discounted first months or trial periods for new members looking to test whether membership makes sense for them.
Practical Takeaway: Use the online location finder on Zips' website to compare plans and pricing at your specific local facility. Write down what each plan includes, then match those features against your climate,
