Liberty Utilities maintains contact options that vary by region, as the company serves customers in states including New Hampshire, Maine, Idaho, Utah, Wyoming, and Kansas. Each state's operations may have distinct phone numbers and local offices. The main customer service lines operate during standard business hours, typically Monday through Friday, with limited weekend availability depending on your location. Some states also offer evening contact options for customers who cannot reach the company during regular daytime hours.
The company categorizes contact options by urgency level. For emergencies like gas leaks or downed power lines, there are dedicated emergency lines available 24/7. For routine questions about your account, billing, or service requests, standard customer service numbers apply. Understanding this distinction helps you choose the appropriate channel and ensures emergency situations receive priority attention.
- Emergency lines operate around the clock for gas leaks, electrical hazards, and service disruptions
- Business hours customer service handles account questions, billing inquiries, and routine requests
- Regional variation means your specific contact number depends on your service area
- Multiple contact methods provide options beyond phone calls
Practical Takeaway: Before calling, identify which category your question falls into—emergency or routine. If you have a gas smell, electrical fire, or widespread outage, use the emergency number. For other matters, use the regular customer service line to avoid wait times in emergency queues.
Phone Numbers by State and Service Area
Liberty Utilities operates under different regional divisions, and each area maintains its own customer service infrastructure. In New Hampshire, where the company serves several communities, customers can reach customer service through the main state line. Maine customers have a separate contact number for Liberty Utilities' operations in that region. Idaho, Utah, Wyoming, and Kansas each have their own dedicated phone lines as well. Having the correct number for your specific state ensures you reach representatives familiar with local utility regulations, weather patterns, and service conditions in your area.

The company's website lists state-specific numbers prominently on the homepage and in account management sections. You can also find these numbers on your monthly utility bill, which is a reliable reference if you need to save contact information. When you call, having your account number ready—typically found on your bill—helps representatives locate your information quickly. This 8-12 digit number identifies your specific service location and billing history.
Some Liberty Utilities service areas are quite large geographically, spanning rural and urban communities. This means phone lines may experience varying wait times depending on time of day, day of week, and season. Winter months typically see higher call volumes due to heating-related inquiries, outage reports, and service requests. Summer months may involve questions about air conditioning and peak demand periods. Understanding these patterns can help you choose better times to call if your question is not time-sensitive.
- New Hampshire, Maine, Idaho, Utah, Wyoming, and Kansas each have distinct service numbers
- Your account number appears on your monthly bill and speeds up service
- Regional numbers connect you to local representatives with area-specific knowledge
- Wait times vary by season and day of week
- Most state lines operate during standard business hours, typically 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. weekdays
Practical Takeaway: Write down the correct number for your state before you need it, and keep it with your other household utility information. Including your account number when you call will reduce hold times and help representatives resolve your issue faster.
Emergency Reporting and After-Hours Service
Liberty Utilities maintains 24/7 emergency lines for situations that pose immediate risk to customers and property. Gas leaks represent the most serious emergency type. Natural gas is odorless in its natural state, so utilities add a chemical odorant that smells like rotten eggs or sulfur. If you notice this smell, do not use electrical switches, lighters, or any ignition source. Instead, evacuate the area if the smell is strong, go to a safe location, and call the emergency line immediately. These calls receive priority routing and connect you to someone trained in emergency response protocols.

Electrical emergencies also warrant emergency line use. If you see downed power lines, arcing electrical equipment, or exposed wiring, treat the situation as dangerous and contact emergency services. Do not touch downed lines or approach hazardous electrical situations. Similarly, if you experience sudden loss of power during severe weather or suspect electrical damage to your home's service connection, the emergency line can dispatch a technician to assess the situation. This may prevent fire hazards or further damage to your home's electrical system.
After-hours service availability depends on your specific service area. Some Liberty Utilities regions offer limited customer service during evening and weekend hours for non-emergency issues. However, most routine questions—billing inquiries, payment arrangements, service requests—are handled during business hours. If you experience an outage that is not widespread, you can often report it through automated systems that don't require speaking to a representative. The automated outage reporting system confirms your location and adds your report to the company's restoration priority list.
- Gas smell requires immediate evacuation and emergency line contact
- Downed power lines should trigger emergency line calls, not direct investigation
- Widespread outages may have automated reporting options
- Emergency lines operate 24/7; regular customer service is business hours only
- After-hours options vary by region and may be limited to emergencies
Practical Takeaway: Store the emergency number in your phone contacts labeled "Utilities Emergency." Teach household members the difference between emergencies (gas smell, downed lines, electrical hazards) and non-emergencies (billing questions, service requests), so they use the correct number if they need to call on your behalf.
Online and Digital Contact Methods
Beyond phone contact, Liberty Utilities offers digital options for customers who prefer written communication or non-emergency contact. The company's website typically includes contact forms where you can submit questions about billing, service requests, or account issues. These forms route your inquiry to the appropriate department, and you receive a confirmation number. Response times for online inquiries vary but generally range from 24 to 48 business hours. This method works well when you have questions that do not require immediate attention or when you prefer to communicate in writing.

Liberty Utilities' website also allows customers to create online accounts for managing their services. Through the customer portal, you can review your billing history, see current usage patterns, report outages in some service areas, and track service requests. This self-service approach reduces the need for phone contact. Many utilities now show real-time or near-real-time outage maps on their websites, allowing you to see if an outage is already reported and estimated restoration times. This information is especially valuable during severe weather when phone lines experience high call volumes.
Social media represents another contact avenue for some Liberty Utilities service areas. Facebook and Twitter accounts may be monitored during business hours, and you can send direct messages with questions or concerns. During major outages or service disruptions, the company sometimes uses social media to provide updates and restoration estimates to larger audiences. However, social media should not be used for urgent matters or emergencies, as response times are typically slower than phone or emergency lines.
- Online contact forms provide written communication options for non-urgent issues
- Customer web portals allow account management, billing review, and outage reporting
- Real-time outage maps show service disruptions and restoration estimates
- Social media accounts may provide updates during major outages
- Response times for digital methods are generally 24-48 business hours
Practical Takeaway: Create an online account with Liberty Utilities to monitor your usage and access outage information without calling. During emergencies or severe weather, check the outage map first to see if the issue is already reported
