The primary customer service channels include the in-app messaging system, email support, phone support, and the help center website. Each channel handles different types of requests and has varying response times. The in-app messaging feature allows you to communicate directly through the Instacart application on your phone or computer. This channel is often the fastest because Instacart support agents can see your account information and order history immediately.
Email support provides a written record of your conversation, which is useful if you need to reference previous communications about your issue. This method works well for detailed questions or complaints that require explanation. Phone support offers real-time conversation with a representative, allowing for complex issues to be resolved through direct discussion.
The Instacart help center contains articles about common questions, account management, payment methods, delivery policies, and shopper information. This resource allows you to find answers without contacting a representative. Many customers resolve issues faster by browsing the help center first.
Practical Takeaway: Start by identifying what type of issue you have—account access problems, order concerns, or general questions—then choose the support channel that matches your need. Use in-app messaging for urgent order issues, email for documented requests, and the help center for general information.
Using In-App Messaging for Quick Resolution
The in-app messaging feature is Instacart's most direct support option and often provides the fastest responses. When you send a message through the app, support agents can view your complete order history, payment information, and account details without asking you to repeat information. This immediate access to your account allows representatives to understand your situation more thoroughly.

To access in-app messaging, open the Instacart application and look for the account or help section, usually found by tapping your profile icon. From there, you should see an option to contact support or view your orders. When you select a specific order, you often have the option to report a problem directly related to that order. The system may also suggest solutions based on your issue type before connecting you with a representative.
Response times through in-app messaging typically range from a few minutes to several hours, depending on support volume and the time of day. During peak shopping hours, wait times may be longer. The app shows a timestamp when messages are sent and received, so you can track the conversation timeline. Representatives can offer refunds, credits, or other solutions directly through the app without requiring you to fill out additional forms.
Common issues handled through in-app messaging include missing items from orders, incorrect items delivered, damaged products, and refund requests. You can include photos or details about the problem, helping the representative understand what happened. The conversation history remains in the app, creating a permanent record of your support interaction.
Practical Takeaway: Use in-app messaging when you have an order-specific problem that needs resolution. Be clear and specific about what went wrong, and include photos if items were damaged or incorrect. Keep the conversation going until the issue is resolved.
Email Support for Documented Communication
Email support provides a formal channel for customer service requests and creates a written record that you can save for your files. This method works well for complaints, detailed explanations, or situations where you need documentation of your communication with Instacart. Email allows you to carefully explain your situation without the pressure of real-time conversation.

To find the email support address, visit the Instacart help center and look for "Contact Us" or similar sections. Instacart's help pages typically provide an email address specifically for customer inquiries. You can also find support contact information in the app's settings or help section. When composing your email, include your account information, the order number if applicable, and a clear description of your issue.
Email response times are generally slower than in-app messaging, typically ranging from 24 to 48 hours depending on support volume. However, email provides several advantages over other channels. You can include detailed explanations, attach photos or documents, and maintain a written record of the entire exchange. If your issue is complex or involves multiple orders, email allows you to provide comprehensive background information.
Email is particularly useful for billing disputes, account security concerns, or issues involving multiple orders. The formal nature of email communication often results in more thorough investigations of your complaint. Representatives are more likely to escalate email inquiries to supervisors if the initial response doesn't satisfy your concern. Always save copies of emails you send to Instacart and the responses you receive.
Practical Takeaway: Use email for complaints that require documentation, situations affecting multiple orders, or when you need a formal record of your communication. Include all relevant details and order numbers in your initial email to receive a faster, more thorough response.
Phone Support and When to Use It
Phone support offers real-time conversation with a customer service representative and works well for complex issues, account access problems, or situations where you prefer verbal communication. When you speak directly with someone, they can ask clarifying questions and walk you through solutions step-by-step. Phone support is particularly useful if you're having trouble with your account, need to dispute a charge, or have concerns about fraud or security.

To find Instacart's phone number, visit the help center's contact section or look in the app's settings. The phone number may appear when you select certain issue types in the app. During business hours, call times are typically shorter. Early mornings and late evenings often have shorter wait times than mid-afternoon during peak shopping hours. Be prepared to provide your account email, phone number, or order information when you call.
Phone support hours may vary, so check the Instacart help center to confirm current hours before calling. Some regions may have different support hours based on time zones. If you call outside business hours, you may hear a message with alternative support options or be directed to leave a voicemail. Representatives will typically return voicemails within one business day.
During your call, have your account information readily available, including your registered email and phone number. If your issue concerns a specific order, have the order number handy. This information helps the representative locate your account quickly and reduces call time. Many phone representatives can process refunds, issue credits, or adjust your account while you're on the line, providing immediate resolution.
Practical Takeaway: Call Instacart customer service when you need immediate real-time help, have account access issues, or prefer to speak with someone directly. Call during off-peak hours for shorter wait times, and have your account information ready before dialing.
The Help Center: Self-Service Information Resource
Instacart's help center website contains articles, FAQs, and guides addressing common customer questions without requiring contact with a representative. This resource covers topics like how ordering works, payment methods, delivery options, refund policies, account settings, and shopper information. Many customers resolve issues faster by finding the relevant article than by waiting for support to respond through other channels.
