Are you an active military service member, a veteran, or a family of a military service member or veteran? Then you’re in luck. There are federal government programs available that can provide additional grants to you. These federal grants ensure that military personnel and their families are taken care of should they experience financial hardship during or after their service. Additionally, several government programs provide additional military benefits, such as VA-backed mortgages.

The United States Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) provides government housing grants and VA backed mortgages to qualifying military service members, veterans, and their families. These loans can help beneficiaries qualify for a mortgage and, in most cases, do not require a down payment or any mortgage insurance premiums.

The program also provides VA-backed mortgages to refinance an existing mortgage to receive more stable or better terms for a loan. Additionally, federal grants are available to service members and veterans who have a service-based disability or age-related limitation that cause mobility issues in their home. Grant money can be used to upgrade, repair, or modify structures of the home to better accommodate a disability.

The VA provides additional government grants for other financial difficulties, including assistance with medical expenses, college tuition, and small business startups.

For example, service members can receive business grants through the U.S. Small Business Administration’s (SBAs) Boots to Business program. Support for small businesses lasts for a five year period.

Surviving children of former service members who died during active service is available through the Iraq and Afghanistan Service Grants fund. Additionally, military members, veterans, and their families can receive grants through the VA-sponsored GI Bill. Low-income households can also receive additional free grants for tuition through Federal Pell Grants.

There are government programs that provide healthcare plans and benefits to active and veteran service members. This includes benefits through the insurance program, TRICARE, which offers coverage for specific medical and dental services. Coverage and costs associated with TRICARE is based on many factors, including military status and location.

These free government programs are a tribute to the service members and veterans who have sacrificed so much for their country. You can browse the Department of Veterans Affairs website for more information about government assistance for military members, veterans, and their families.
